To sign up for one of our workshops please e-mail (or call) and tell us which workshop you are interested in, and we can give you the date, place, and time that the workshop will be held.
The beginner beekeeper’s basics workshop:
(Late April/early May)
You went to bee school or have just jumped into beekeeping and have lots of questions. This workshop will give you hands on experience working with our bee colonies in learning the basics of how to go thru and what to look for in your new colonies. (for beginners only)
Spring workshop:
(late April)
This workshop is geared for beekeepers who have successfully over-wintered their bees, but would like to learn more on managing colonies to prevent swarming and making a honey crop. Will also discuss colony evaluation, disease diagnoses, reversing, supering.
Making Nucs workshop:
(Late April/early May)
We are now in the prime beekeeping season and your colonies are packed with bees. Don’t let them end up in the trees!! Sign up for this workshop and you will learn how to make walk-away splits, queenless nucs, swarm prevention, colony increase, and general tips on why making and keeping nucs should be part of every beekeepers management system.
Keeping bees alive workshop:
(thru-out the bee season)
This workshop will be held thru-out the beekeeping season to give beginners as well as experienced beekeepers tactics on how to keep their colonies strong and healthy. Topics covered will include: use of pollen substitute, varroa mite monitoring, queen evaluation and replacement, medications.
Wintering Bees successfully workshop:
(August/September)
Winter in August! Yes, in order to increase the odds for over-wintering your bees, winter preparations start in late August/ early September. Sign-up for this workshop and you will learn how minimise your winter losses.
Harvesting/extracting honey:
(various times thru-out the year)
This workshop is held at our Warehouse in Holliston. For first year beekeepers who have never harvested honey. Learn different ways for “pulling honey” off colonies, use of queen excluders, uncapping techniques and extracting honey.
